Fish Pedicures in Barcelona

Back in December 2014 I decided to try something new, something I had heard much about but never had the chance to try. That something was…. a fish pedicure. I’ve always wanted to try a fish pedicure, and when I discovered the Rufoo Fish Spa in Barcelona, I knew I had found the perfect place to try it out.

At Rufoo they specialize in fish manicures and pedicures, I opted to try the fish pedicure for my first time.  A fish pedicure is exactly what it sounds like… a pedicure, done by fish. These fish, garra rufa fish, are small fish without teeth that literally eat the dead skin right off your feet. It’s one of the strangest things I’ve done, but also an experience that I will definitely never forget.

When I entered the spa, I opted for the 15-minute treatment. As I walked to the chair I was incredibly nervous, yet equally excited. I wasn’t sure what was about to happen. Would it tickle? Would it hurt? Would I get through it or would it just simply be too weird?

As soon as I sat down in the chair and slowly put my feet into the water the fish immediately darted for our feet and anchored to different territories. In-between the toes seemed to be a favorite of the fish in my tank.

Once the fish started doing their thing it really tickled and I found myself laughing uncontrollably. After about five minutes I started to get used to it and found it to be more relaxing. What it really felt like was tiny vibrations on my feet, or like my feet were being dunked in a pool of champagne and the fish nibbles were like tiny bubbles. After the time was up with the fish, next came a 10-minute foot massage.

By the time it was all done my feet were incredibly soft (seriously it was the softest they’ve ever felt) and I felt entirely relaxed and completely rejuvenated. A fish pedicure is something I really recommend to anyone who is thinking about doing it. It is definitely quite the experience, something you will truly remember.
